View Full Version : Help for Mexico!!
04-26-2004, 09:18 AM
Ok those of you who are helping with Mexico I wanted to say a BIG Thank you!!!! If you are still interested in helping there are some things we specifically need now!!
Shampoo, tooth brushes, gallon bags, religous stickers, and pencils.
To add to the list from abcteach forum we now are in need of diapers sizes 3 & 5, girls underware and pillows. We are going to try to take as much as we can and someone gave us powdered milk and Sandy at ABC sent coloring books and crayons a big need that was met. Plus we got alot of combs and soap.
Oh yeah I almost forgot!!!! CANDY!!! Hard candy for the children.
So if you feel God speaking to your heart about the kids of Mexico in the orphanage you can email me for my address and what you want to help with!!

Hey Jimmie Lu - I will update our list for the new items you are looking for. We need to set up a time to get together so I can get these items to you. We're not done collecting yet and having fun doing so. We had many items donated by our homeschool co-op.
Crystal and Kids :) :p ;) :D :) ;)

Great!! Just let me know and we will arrange a pick up!! I think Heidi wants to be a part of the pick up also!! Hey where is the notebook these days??? I sure hope I get it before we have to leave!!!
04-27-2004, 09:32 AM
I was wondering about your notebook also. I think that our family was supposed to be 4th to receive it, and I have yet to see it. Hope it's not lost out there somewhere in Post Office Land! Have you heard from anyone letting you know that they have it?
04-27-2004, 09:54 AM
Heidi - I think you are 4th. Last I checked in on it Lorna had it and was ready to ship it off. She was 2nd on the list. You should get it soon.
Jimmie Lu - I hope it gets to you before July too. When it gets closer to the date I will get in contact with you. I think it will be neat to meet you and Heidi!!!
04-27-2004, 10:21 AM
Ok, I'll start watching for the notebook and I'll let you know when we receive it. If I were you, it would be driving me crazy wondering where it is!
04-27-2004, 11:45 AM
I actually did just send out an e-mail to see if I could find its location. I know Gina had it and mailed it to Lorna. Lorna e-mailed me to let me know she got it and that was the last I heard. Vivian should have it now and that would make Heidi next!! I'd start looking for it soon!! If you could let me know when you get it I like keeping track of it.
04-27-2004, 07:06 PM
I heard from Lorna - she mailed the traveling notebook Monday the 19th. Vivian must have it by now. I havent heard from her yet, but I would expect the notebook with in the next week. After you there are four more people until it gets to Jimmie Lu. People are keeping it longer then I thought, but I understand how these things get put on the back burner. I didnt even mail it out when I wanted.
Lets hope it get to Jimmie before she leaves for Mexico!!
04-27-2004, 07:25 PM
I guess there's no way you can change the order? Like, would you want me to send it to Jimmie Lu, and then she can just send it on to whomever I am supposed to send it to? (We could just cross her name and address off the list so it doesn't go to her twice).
Just a suggestion. I'm sure you guys are anxious to get the notebook back and see what people have put into it.
04-27-2004, 07:53 PM
Oh please try not to change the order!!!I was thinking as long as I got it the first week of June we can arrange a drop and pick up for the same day!!:D
04-27-2004, 09:05 PM
Dont worry Jimmie Lu I wont change the order. That was the hardest part! I wanted to make everyone happy and I had a lot of requests for a certain order. I think it would be too confuesing to change it now that it is already in route. I have written in it to please keep it just a few days - like maybe two or three. If the rest of the group of ladies keeps to that schedule it will reach you by June. I know that can be hard to do especially this time of year with all of us ending our school year, but lets hope. That would work out great to get it back when we meet.
Where is Heidi located again?
04-28-2004, 03:25 PM
Ok!!! Heidi lives south of Harrisburg I think!! Dont shoot me if I am wrong!! It will be sooooo cool meeting you guys I can hardly wait!! It will be so:cool: !!
04-28-2004, 06:07 PM
Would Hershey be a good middle point for all of us? We dont have to make arrangements yet, just wanted to throw that out there to think about. We could also meet at my house. Which ever would be best for you and Heidi.
04-29-2004, 06:38 AM
Hershey would be fine by me. It's about 45 minutes from where I live. Whatever you two decide.
04-29-2004, 07:34 AM
Wow Hershey is about 45 min. for me also!! I was thinking I dont mind coming to your house if you have alot of things!! How far from Hershey do you live?? Is there a park or playground in/near Hershey?? The children will love being together I am sure!!! OH I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!!:D
04-29-2004, 08:27 AM
Hershey is about 15 minutes from me. If I can fit everything in my trunk we can meet at Hershey. I was thinking of the chocolate factory tour for all of us to do. Have you ever been there Heidi or Jimmie? Its our favorite free activity. I use it as a reward to my kids when we have a hard week of schoolwork. We are going up tomorrow becasue my hubby has off work and said he has a chocolate craving. :D I can scope the area for parks if you'd all rather meet some place like that.
Now you both will have to let me know your childrens ages because I know my kids will ask. You can send me a private e-mail if you prefer. In case your kids want to know about my kids -
 Blaze is 12
:D Alex is 12
;) Elle is 10
 Pheonix is 9
:p Megan will be 8 when we meet
:) Madi is 6
:D Jessie is 4

Hi Jimmie Lu ~
We would love to help with your Mexico trip :) I know there are different things you need - if you would email me privately and let me know exactly what you want - we would love to get it to you! Our Sunday School class just went to Mexico last weekend - they had an amazing experience! We have a group that makes the trip down there once a month - so awesome!
04-29-2004, 03:22 PM
The tour sounds good as long as it is free!!!! $ needed for Mexico over rules pleasure $!!! lol Also check for a playground and maybe we can picknic there if that is ok to everyone else!!! What do ya think:confused: ;)
04-29-2004, 03:53 PM
Oh yeah its free. I couldnt afford to go there as often as I do with my gang if it wasnt. :) There is a picnic area there, but I will still look for a park close by in case you'd rather that.
04-30-2004, 07:44 AM
:D I love free!!! We can have a pick nic lunch there that is fine with me!!! Now all we need is a date and time!!! Oh I can hardly wait!!!!
:D Elizabeth or EB for short is 9 almost 10
:p Josh is 7 very close to 8
 David is 5
Larry is my hubby and i wont tell his age!!!
Do we need to make reser. for the tour we probably will have a group with all those babies you have lol:rolleyes: Just joking!!!
We have a mear 7 days to reach our 180 however I need to take a week for cleaning and pack away desks etc... so as soon as I get the notebook we can set this up!!
Maybe you want to email me your phone# So we can set this up!! Or I can send you mine if your uncommfy with the idea!!
Did I say I was excited to go!!!!:D
04-30-2004, 10:29 AM
No reservations needed. If we pick a day during the week the crowds should still be small. You can let me know the day. We are done with our 180 days May 18th. We can meet whenever. My hubby is have surgery and will be off work for a few weeks so he will probably come too. He's just a big kid anyway! :p
I have no problem giving you my phone #. I will send you a private e-mail so we can set up a date. We'll have to get in touch with Heidi too.
Vivian has my traveling notebook now and I still havent heard from her. I will send out another e-mail. :)
04-30-2004, 02:50 PM
My hubby runs his own business soooo I can convince him to come along !!:)
04-30-2004, 03:58 PM
Wow! I don't know if I can get my husband to take the day off work or not! ;) I guess it depends on when we decide to get together.
This is going to be fun!
04-30-2004, 04:04 PM
I can not wait!!!
04-30-2004, 04:13 PM
Girls, we were at Hershey just a few Saturdays ago for the tour, and they are working on a 3D attraction that is right there with the tour. Hopefully it is or will be done for you guys to enjoy!!
04-30-2004, 06:31 PM
The 3-D attraction Becky is talking about is the Really Big 3-D show. (not free) We were just up there today and it was running. Not sure why it wasnt running when Becky was there. It was new for last year. We saw it a couple times. Its pretty good. It gives Miltion Hershey history. They are always adding something new. They just opened something called factory works where you can go threw the assembly line and fill your own bag of chocolate. Kids get their own Hershey hat and ID badge. My mother in law works for Hershey chocolate in the "real" factory. She gets us the new Hershey creations fresh from the factory. My new favorite - the carmel filled Hershey kisses. They melt in your mouth.
05-01-2004, 01:34 PM
Sounds neat however we will have to wait for that until after Mexico!!! Ah I still can not wait:D
05-01-2004, 08:53 PM
Maybe I'm wrong, Crystal, but there were even workmen there the day we went. Maybe it was temporarily closed or something. I didn't look too closely because it was so crowded and I was worried about keeping an eye on my little one. I was surprised at how full it was.
05-01-2004, 09:58 PM
Spring is when the crowds start. Not bad during the week, but by June the place is nuts and stays that way all summer during the week and weekend. The chocolate factory is open year round and its great to go during the winter months, but if you're visiting its nice to go when the amusement park is open - its great!!
I wonder if the construction - when you were there Becky, might have been them changing the movie. I heard they might be doing that. It's a good show. Not just 3-D, but you "feel" things at your feet and when a giant bubble pops you get wet. Its really 3-D. :)
05-02-2004, 08:16 PM
When I told the girls that we'd be meeting up with some other homeschoolers at the Hershey Chocolate Factory, they couldn't wait! They begged me to take them down yesterday. Well, since we got rid of cable television at our house, we're always looking for cheap entertainment! And, since it was free........we went. We just did the tour, not the 3-D show (but we'd like to see that sometime).
Can't wait to get together.
05-02-2004, 08:46 PM
Heidi - We were just there on Friday. Did you see the new Factory Works? Looks interesting. How were the crowds when you were there? There was hardly anyone when we were there, but we went around 4 and they close at 5. By the time we meet up there with Jimmie it might be the busy time of year. We might want to pick a day during the week to help cut down on the confuesion. If that works for you all.
05-03-2004, 07:09 AM
We've gone there when we drove around and couldn't find anywhere to park and had to leave! It wasn't that bad on Saturday. It looked crowded, but there were several available parking places. And there was absolutely nobody in the line for the tour ride!
We saw the Factory Works, but there wasn't a sign anywhere (that I saw) saying how much it cost to do it, etc. so I said "maybe next time" (it usually stops the asking!) Older dd really wanted to see the show. I didn't know what it was like; from your description, it sounds like something we'd really enjoy.
A weekday will work just fine for me. Is it a free call for you? I was going to say maybe you could call and ask if there's a day (or days) during the week that don't get as crowded. (I know certain days are often "bus tours", like perhaps Wednesdays, or something). Anyday should suit us fine.
05-03-2004, 09:27 AM
I do not mind meeting during the week that is fine and dandy!!
05-03-2004, 04:54 PM
Thats a good idea Heidi. I will call and see if there are less crowded days. I know they do a lot of bus tours. The new factory works I think is $10 a person. Too much for us with our small village of kiddos. We havent done the 3-D movie since last year and I dont remember the price of that, but it was really good. I will get back to you all when I get a hold of someone and see if there is a day better for crowd control.
05-03-2004, 05:48 PM
Don't you just get Hershey's kisses in the Factory Works? If so, it would be a much better deal for you to just buy a bag of them and divide them 7 ways! LOL
The 3-D show, if my memory serves me right, is $5.95 for adults and $3.95 for kids (4-12). All the shows on the board were showing as "available" when we were there the other day. So, if we'd be interested in doing that, I doubt if it would be sold out on a weekday.
Let us know if you find anything else out.
