I know my provinces from when I lived in Canada a little bit better than my states, but then there are only 10 plus the territories, but how well do we know our states?
My sister sent this link to me and I was slow, it has a time limit folks!
See if you can do it, then test your kids if you want! It is fun!

My daughter is simply amazing at states! I don't even know all the capitals. We have flash cards of each state by itself with no markings or words and she still knows every one of them. She has the 50 states book and reads it all the time. She will end up teaching me! She can fill in a map in record time! It was never something I was good at. You know when they say "I missed that day in school...." Well, I honestly did! lol. the day they gave the blank united states test on states and capitals...I was out sick with chicken pox for almost 2 weeks. I seriously missed the whole thing. lol.

I got 100% on my first try. Partly that's because my g-g'ma had a puzzle when I was a kid that I always did when I was little. Partly because we traveled all over the US in a camper when I was a kid, and partly because Marylyn sent a site to me a while back for a place that I posted her (over a year ago, I'd say). The New England and mid-Atlantic states always gave me trouble. Because they were so small, my g-g'ma's puzzle put them all into one piece, so I never learned them. We studied the Eastern states a while back, and went to New England that summer, so now I know them, too. Phillip is currently working on the site Marylyn gave me about three to five days each week. He's pretty good with his Eastern states now! Here's the site Marylyn gave me.....

Try this on Intermediate leve...you have to place the states in the correct location without any rivers, etc. to help you! Rachael has taught herself most of the world's countries using this site.

Jackie, I love that site! Wonder why I haven't found it before? While I was there, I noticed stuff about CLEP, which we are looking into for my oldest ds, and a couple of other things! Thanks for sharing!

Deena, I'm sure you had checked it out before when Marylyn first gave it to me. We were all trying to out-do each other. It was quite a while back.

I passed the first time, but not with 100%. The New England States are difficult for me! I have done the other one that Jackie posted before, too.

To brag on hs'ers a little:
A couple of years ago at VBS we did the "Ramblin Road Trip". One of the games was to label the US. The ps student got only the ones around our state (& the more obvious ones like CA and TX), and the hs student got all she was asked! They were jr. high students.

Jackie, You're right, I did do the states one, I didn't realize it was the same one. We always went straight to the maps, but I hadn't seen the whole sheppards site, and all the OTHER stuff they have!

It says I failed, but I got them all right :( Ah well, I will pat myself on the back.

Aurie, It did that for my dd9 too! She was so excited when she got them all, then it told her she failed! But the total showed that she got them all right! Oh well......

That site is so fun, Jackie! Thanks for posting it again. I hadn't seen some of the upper levels. I always try to make Colorado too far north for some reason... (going back to try again...)

ok, I finally got to go to it to retry.. knowing the states was not the hard part for me it was getting the arrow to accept it in the tiny ones!
I ran over it four times today so five in total, I would have had it at three but those tiny oens did not go for me lol
Wee! I passed third grade! Im gonna check Jackies out next!

Jackie that is one of my favorite sites. My ds used it to learn the capitals. We are doing Canada now.

Thanks. That was so fun. I failed the first time, but only because I had trouble with the arrow. We do a lot of geography as we travel. Can't wait for the kids to try it.

Yeah, that arrow was my downfall a couple of times too!
