hello to everyonei am new to this site. Hi my name is Sharon and i am from port orange ,fl. ;) .my daughter recently mentioned to me that she'd like to home school my grandaughter. Her recent interest for this was because because of 2 seperate instances in kindergarten shocked and scared her for her daughters safety,a child in kindergarten was sexually molested and nothing was done about it,the other instance was a child saw his parents having sex and he was trying the same act on another child in his grade. i think it a fabulous idea since i feel the education here in Florida isn't what it should be. MY QUESTION IS HOW DO YOU MAKE HOME SCHOOLING SUCCESFUL,AND NOT HAVE TO RESORT TO SENDING YOUR CHILD IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM?Thanks for the invite.. :|

Welcome! I'm Jackie, living in central Ohio! I've three kids, ages 12, 10, and 6.
Boy, you asked a loaded question! Am not sure I can answer that! Best thing for you to do is read through some of the threads here, and you'll get a pretty good feel for what we all do! Each of us is different. One of the advantages of HS'ing is that we can do what works best for our family. There's no rules set in stone! There's loads of curriculum out there to use, to the extent that it's sometimes hard to pick between them. If you have anything specific, ask away! Tell your daughter to come visit here, too!
I really want to encourage you as a G'ma! So many G-parents are so against what we're doing, and we often have questions here concerning how to handle negative relatives. I'm blessed with a mom who thinks HS'ing is awesome, and a MIL who, while not exactly "supportive", isn't antagonistic, either. Your encouragement will really mean a lot to your daughter's success!

Homeschooling: The Solution to Our Education - Audiobook on Cassette
There has been much research done and there are many books on the subject. You can read some of the books or hang around and view the chat from homeschoolers. But we tend to chat about any and everything and not always specifically about the day to day details of what we are doing regarding homeschooling.
Here's a link to one of my favorite books on the subject of homeschooling. "The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook"
