Hello Everyone,
My name is Angela. I have 3 kids: Erica (9) Jaden (6) and Bennett (6 months).
We are going on our 2nd year of homeschooling. We use Saxon math, Spectrum workbooks and are frequent visitors to the public library.
I hope to get to know all of you homeschoolers,
We're like one big family.

Hello and Welcome! We are also starting our second year homeschooling.
Where are you at in South Dakota? I lived near Pierre for 9 years and lived in the Black Hills for 7 years.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
We live a few minutes north of Sioux Falls. I'm a member of the South Dakota Homes School Association here.
We live out in the country. My husband who also was my high school sweetheart and I have been married for 9 years now. :) He works in Sioux Falls. I've been a SAHM from the beginning.
Rebecca, where do you live now? I saw you once lived in Pierre. You know somebody there won the $178 million dollar state lottery in that little town and nobody has come forward yet?? lol Crazy.
Have a good weekend

Hello! Angela!
How do you like the Spectrum books? What are they like?
My MiL lives in SD, in the Rapid area? I have been to Belle Fourche too?

Angela, aren't high school sweethearts the best?
I had not heard that about the lottery. I lived in Presho- my dad was a pastor there. Last year we took our kids for a South Dakota tour and we went to the Corn Palace, the Capital building, Wall Drug, the Badlands, and Rapid City. We visit the Black Hills several times every year and plan to move there next summer.
I now live in NE Colorado, but I consider South Dakota my home. Did you grow up in South Dakota?

Hi
Rebecca- I lived in Dell Rapids since I was a toddler. I love it here, despite the brutal winters. I can't imagine living anywhere else! Sioux Falls is on the eastern side of the state. We try to make it out to Rapid at least once every 2 years. We do a lot of camping out there. The scenery is simply stunning. Especially Spearfish Canyon in the fall. Ooohh!! A friend of mine, Karen Buxel just moved out there. She's an AMAZING mother to 4 boys. She sure is missed around here. You'll have to look her up when you move back.
Teacher Mom- I wish I had saved my workbooks so I could go into detail. I like them, they're simple and to the point. However, if your child thrives on review you might consider another book. It moves swiftly from topic to topic. Erica (8, almost 9) does well with reading, writing and grammer so Spectrum was a good choice. She needs extra help in math (she has my math brain) so Saxon was the way to go there.
Take care

How many lessons? Enough to get through the school year (9 months). We didnt even get all the way through ours. Like I said, I didnt save the books otherwise I could go into more detail. We did grammer 3 times a week and alternated that with Mad Libbs and free writing on the other 2 days. Worked beautifully. If you have a Barnes and Noble near you, you should go check them out! Thats where I got mine last year. This year I ordered from www.christianbook.com They're cheap too so you dont have to be a nutcase about xeroxing everything, or if you find they're not for you then just give them away. No major money lost. :)

I just looked at the math 8th grade at our homeschool /christian book store. They must hate me I am constantly looking at thier home school stuff, then I get the idea if I want that book or not, and sometimes I actually buy there, but they are so high priced that I usually just order online too.
I think that Staples sells them for a fair price too.
I decided to get the grammar and writing or something else that will get my dd writing abotu what she read more fluently.
my home schooled kids this year ( hubby informed me this week that my son15 IS going back to his private school inlaws are sending tutition already even!) ds almost9 and dd12, 4th and 8/9th grade work.
how high are the grammar books in?

T'mom, TinaTx is a big one for using Barnes and Noble. They have a policy that if you order a book, look at it and decide you don't want it, it's cool. Plus you can use a Teacher Discount Card for it if you decide to keep it. So that way you can get your hands on it first to see what you think. I ordered a French workbook that way just recently.
Angela, welcome! I'm Jackie in central Ohio. I'm starting Year 8, with DD12, DD10, and DS6. I use Spectrum for reading through grade 3 or 4. Also, the French workbook I got is also by the company that does Spectrum.
