Megan welcome to the homeschool spot. How long have you been homeschooling and how old are your children?
Oh, My name is Kris from TX I have been homeschooling for 5 years have two dd's whom are 13 and 11 years old and we love it, wouldn't go any other way.
I am excited to hear some of your stories on homeschooling, join right in.

I think this person just wanted to advertise their website.
we'll see if she really comes back to share ideas.

I am currently a public educator just starting my own family. I am interested in homeschooling and have been doing lots of research, but as of yet don't have a little one to use my educational skills on. :(
I figure it is still a good idea to become familiar with other homeschoolers and check out some of the problems and solutions others have come up with.
As I mentioned I have lots of education experience so I hope that I will be able to share as well as learn, but am really looking to get a perspective on what I should expect in the furture.
Thanks for the greeting!

Welcome, Megan. No, we're really not so tough. It's just lately, we've had lots of people coming by wanting free advertising and we don't care for that. Anyone who wants to come and exchange ideas is welcome, whether they have kids yet or not. Many of us (myself and Marylyn, I know!) were pretty set on homeschooling before we were even married, so don't worry about it! Our moderator, Amanda, is a kindergarten teacher expecting her first! What grade do you teach? I use to teach orthopedically/health handicapped children before I quit to homeschool, plus I also was certified to teach hearing impaired. My husband currently teaches in a public high school. He was teaching computers, but his job was staff reduced, so he'll be teaching math this year.

I currently teach 2nd grade. It looks like I will be teaching 1st next year. I was hoping to be home next year, but my eggs haven't been following my time schedule as of yet.
I hope this doesn't foreshadow a non-compliant child. :D
I'm glad to hear there are other public educators around. I have found some boards very hostile in that regard.
Thanks for the welcome.

That's because most professional educators tend to look down on us, and feel we can't do as well as they can. As long as they treat us as equals, we're fine! I had a friend who was once asked "What makes you think you're capable of educating your children?" by a professional educator. After some serious consideration, I told her that she probably ISN'T capable of educating a classroom of 30 kids, but she's also not trying to. Most of my teacher-education classes were classes on crowd-control (ie: classroom management). Very few home educators don't have to deal with that!
