Hi - I'm a mother of a 3 yr old and a 4 month old. I really want to homeschool, but we're still trying to decide what we'll do. I'm starting with just basic stuff with my 3 yr old. We do an art project every day and sing or do nursery rhymes and we also try to sit down and do some more structured times, just to get him in the habit. I'm just on this board to learn more about hs.
Becky
welcome.
I really love hs. My son needs one on one so it works for us. I would cont. what you are doing, do some reading they have some great books at the library about hs. Look into your state laws, someone here I'm sure can tell you where to look for that. I'm not a 100% I just did a search on my state and hs laws. There is also a lot online about hs too. Read around this site too, these are great people. I would also look in to play groups or hs co-ops mine allows families with younger children not yet in school. When the time comes you will know what is right for you. Good luck.

Becky, to find out about your state laws, check out the Home School Legal Defense Association's website at www.hslda.org. They have a state-by-state account of laws in your state.

AmyU - I'm actually in IL also... :)
AmyU - I'm actually in IL also... :)
that web site will let you know 100% what to do.
All I did was write letter to my son school, and say I was pulling him out.
But if your children are not yet in school you won't need to do that.
I also contacted my local school district and they had me fill out a form stating what I'm teaching and hours, I have been told I didn't have to do this.
The way I understand it Illinois is one of the easiest states to hs in. You don't have to report anything or take any test. I do keep track of our hours, subjects, what we do on a daily bases, I also keep copies of most of his work, I take pictures of projects and put them on cd. (They do not make me do this.) Other wise we are free to do as we please.
Where in Illinois are you.
We are in Dekalb. We have a great hs co-op and everyone is welcome if you are close enough.
Talk to you soon :)

Also, Becky, HDLSA will let you know the age of manditory attendance. It can vary from state to state, but is generally at age 6. Until then, you don't do anything.
I'm Jackie, BTW, from Ohio. My children are DD almost 12, DD 10, and DS 6. We've been homeschooling from Day One.
another web site for IL is
