Hi all!

I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I just pulled my 13 year old daughter out of school to homeschool her (our 2nd attempt). She was homeschooled prior to this when we lived in Florida for the 4th and 5th grade. After moving here and everyone telling me how wonderful the schools were, I put her back in public school, not to mention that we were living in a hotel for 4 months waiting for our home to be built here and I had a 3 month old and a 22 month old at the time. She had already missed so much with relocating and such.

Anyway, I wish now that I would had never put her back in school when we moved. They held her back to do 5th grade again so she was fine last year. Of course, because she was repeating everything she had already learned. Well, when she went to middle school this year, everything went from bad to worse. The last straw was the school telling me I should have her tested for ADD (AGAIN!) so I went to have her tested and I was told by the ped that she needed a vision test and an IQ test. I took the script to the school and the counselor's exact words were, "We don't tell them how to medicate and they don't tell us how to educate". I was so upset with her response. Needless to say I found a psychologist and had all the testing done myself, took her to the eye doc, etc. She ended up missing so much school for all the testing she needed to have done because one test turned into another. The school sent me home a letter after her missing 4 days because of testing (not all consecutive) that she would be retained if she missed anymore days. They won't do the testing and I have to get it done myself, but she will be retained if she misses anymore school. Hmmm...

I just couldn't take it any longer, kept her out of school after receiving the note and sent in my NOI.

I also have a 3.5 year old whom I am starting to homeschool (very casual though) and 2 year old who will also be homeschooled.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here and hearing of your experiences and using this board as my support outlet since I haven't really found a homeschool support group that quite "fits" yet.

Hey there! Welcome!
I am new here, too!
I have 5 yo twin boys and a 3 yo girl, we are in Texas.

I am too new to tell you too much about this group, but it does seem to be more active than most, and goodness knows that is a major plus!

SO welcome!

Welcome to the site! I'm pretty new, too, but this is a very friendly bunch. :) I'm sure you'll feel right at home very soon. I'm sorry dealing with the school was such a pain. I would have pulled my daughter out, too, after all of that!!

HI! I am also fairly new to the board! The gals on this site are very friendly and helpful! You will learn lots from them! I have a ds11 and dd9 and this is our first year homeschooling. I actually took my daughter out in the middle of the year, too. She is in 3rd grade, and was having a hard time learning her basic math. She just needed some extra time and attention learning it and no one was able to do that at the ps, so since we were already hs my ds, we decided to take her out and hs her too! I have since found out that she was having trouble with several of the girls at her school...I guess they were getting pretty mean! I had no idea because they would say things like, "if you tell your mom, we will make everyone hate you!" Well...my kids aren't in school for that! What does that have to do with education anyway? It was the best decision we ever made!

Anyway...welcome! Hope to hear alot form you!

Interesting!!! They are upset that the doctors are telling them to give an IQ test, because the doctor is telling them what to do, but they feel quite comfortable making the ADD diagnosis for him.....

I'm Jackie. I'm finishing up my seventh year. I've two girls, ages 11 and 9, and a son, age 6. None of my kids have ever attended school, which is just fine with me!!!
