Welcome, Jen! I'm Jackie. I'm finishing up Year Seven with three (dd11, dd9, and ds6) in Ohio. We've got several Texans here: Marilyn's from the Houston area, too! And we also have twins here, too! Identical 5YO boys...I bet they keep you busy!!! There's a thread right now about a humorous look at raising boys...you may check it out for a laugh. You just might be able to identify with it!!!

Hi,
Welcome. I am a new homeschooling mom and I love this site. I really love your quote!! I have always been an awful speller. I don't even have an excuse I just don't spell well. (Although sometimes I blame it on my fingernails being too long.)

Welcome to the board! Nice to have you along. I checked out your website...love your ideas on discipline. I totally agree with you. Personally, it always shocks me when kids don't listen to thier parents and throw tantrums in malls or stores. No kid is perfect, however, overall you should expect your kid to listen. Every kid will have his or her moments, but c'mon, you should be able to get a kid to listen. I love how you say that with discipline you don't need punishment. My dh and I are pretty harsh disciplinarins and my kids have not been punished in a very long time. I never put it the way you put, that is perfect wording. I think you can enjoy your kids more if they know boundaries and are too afraid or respectful for cross them. Anyway, are the blond on the website?

Maureen,

you have long fingernails! I wish I did! I used to have nails people would swear were fake. Now, they are short and hardly ever painted. Motherhood is taking it's toll on my hands! I can't wait to have long nails again. I just can't seem to keep them looking good anymore.

I play Mountain Dulcimer. You can't play with nails (not that I EVER had them, lol!) I would even keep fingernail clippers in this little pouch with my picks, because I wouldn't notice they were getting longer until I'd sit to play!

I barely found this place!
No kidding, I have a HUGE, BIG, did I mention: LARGE homeschool bookmark folder in my browser and it is from years of collecting links to websites.

Now, as par for the course, many are DUDS (Read: The byte) No one really there, lots of dust in those forums.

I came here, last night (Early mornin' actually) but I forgot how I found you guys... sigh....

This is a great forum. Thanks for the wonderfull welcome!
I hope to be a good contributer to this group.

jen

P.S. Yes, I am a dork. I began to turn my computer off last night, with full intentions of going to bed at a decent hour, only to stumble upon a gret link for schooliong, whilc, of course, led to "Just one more Great site".. and so on. Ended up staying up to make DH and the three monsters some breakfast, took a two hour nap while the monsters played games, now up again. I mention all of this because I am a little goofy, so if you see me posting at 3 am, you will know why.

Bwaa haa haa!
You "Got" it!

The term 'Bonus Baby", in this house, began wuth the twins. I was 30 before I even conceived ANY children. it was the twins. We were VERY shocked and gratefull to have the ONE baby, then to find out they were twins, meant that we had a Bonus Baby.

That was until the twins were a year and a half and I learned the REAL definition of Bonus Baby, with my baby girl, Sasha.

hahahahahaha!

Hi there, Maureen!

I know how ya' feel, honey. At my core, is the need to excell at whatever I do, because aiming for anything less that excellence means "THAT" is as far as you will go.

I know this, I teach this, I believe this...
But when it comes to my small freetime on the computer with my friends.. Kiss My Grits on being perfect! hahahaha!
:p

Hey there Ava!

Oh! Thanks for checking it out. I was watching Dr. Phil one day (Can only stand his show half the time) and something clicked in my head about how all the "Parenting" web sites were just regurgitating the same "Safe" boring information. Bleh!

It is a labor of love and a work in progress. I am VERY open to suggestions, by the way. and most of the links are empty. I am hoping the get more time in a couple of weeks to devote to bringing the site back up to working order. If you have anything good or bad about it to say, please do. We all learn from the good and bad, and even the bad will help me make a better site.

Oh! And Sorry, I am NOT the blonde on the site. Funny, though! hahaha! I did do everything on the site, the design the writing and the graphics. So look for misspellings! haahahaha!

Howdy, Pard'ner!

I am on the SW side. You?
We just moved here from the Pearland area. Closer to DH work. He used to be gone for 18 hours a day. Now, he leaves only 5 minutes before needed to be there, comes home for lunch and is home within 5 minutes of leaving work!

Not used to him being here... all the time.... uugghh! Maybe it was a ad idea to have him home too much.... Yesterday, he messed with my washing machine settings... "Do not touch the woman's tools and machinery"! BWAAA HAAA HAAA!

LOLOL!! I'm on the NW side in the Spring Branch area. My husband did the opposite, commuting-wise - he was working about 10 minutes from home at Northwest Mall and now he is at the Galleria. It's still not too far away, but the traffic can be frightful!

Welcome, Jen! I am a little late responding, but am glad to meet you!

I have 2 kids...dds11 and dd9. This is our first year hs....and we love it! My dh and I also lived in Kingwood, TX for about a year and a half just after we were first married! We liked it down there, but it was toooo far away from our families, so we moved back!

God answered "No" in regards to babies, until I turned 30, so I just got started with my three. Actually, I am done.

They are cuties!!! I didn't get married until I was 32; I've always said if I had started 10 years earlier, I'd have at least as many as Crystal does. But once you hit 40, having babies takes a LOT MORE out of you, and now I'm closer to 50 than 40. I'm ready for MENOPAUSE, ladies!!! BRING IT ON!!!

Wow Jennifer those are some cute babies, wish I could do something like that, but it's hard to teach a old dog new trick. Some day maybe I don't know if I could do it.

Jackie, I am right up there with you and on the road to menopause with you, they can bring us anything and we can handle it. LOL

Hey sweets!

I tried to Private message you back, however, the system says your private mailbox is full and that you would have to delete some messages before you can accept anymore!!!

Here is what I wrote back to you.......

Hey there!

Thanks for the help, but the original problem was that there is no link (ON my screen) for a custom avatar option.

It is my understanding that you have to be a member for 30 days to get the option.

That' ok. I can wait.

Thanks fo the compliment on the babies!

Our classroom.... Those photos are from our Preschool from two years ago, in our house. We, just this past month, moved to an apartment. We are converting the master bedroom 20' x 15' into the classroom. The twins have a huge and high loft bed, which fits well with our 9 foot ceilings and the girls bed is under theirs. (They are so close in age that she thinks she is the same age and feels left out without the boys. :(

The original classroom in our old house was 8' x 8' SMALL!!!!!! I need the room for Sashi's (Her real name is Sasha, by the way) preschool "Creations" and for the boys' kindergarten messes and manipulative play. The only thing I need is a large round table. That would be awesome! :p

Ok, have a great morning!
jen

P.S. Ifyou were talking about the monstermommy web page, it wil be redone, as soon as we get everything moved into the classroom and set up. Half of everything is still in boxes!

If you were talking about the photos page, that is simply an account on Picturetrail.com, so I can't take credit for that. haha!

Get this...
I went through menepuase at 28! No kidding. My body started slowing the cycles when I was young. And the distance between them grew greater and greater untill they stoped completely. My husband used to have to lay ICE packs on me to cool me off from the hot flashes, jsut so I could go to sleep! I began aging fast.

No one could figure it out. Until I mentioned it to the internist who was treating my hypoglycemia.

Turns out, the hypoglycemia, effected the glucose levels in the body, then that (Along with regular hypoglycemia probs) secretly messes with your progesterone hormons. It errodes the progesterone levels in your body by telling the pituitary gland to shut up. So, then the ovaries decide they aren't getting paid, so they go on strike.

Once I got the synthetic progsterone, I felt like I could FLY! I felt young again! But stil no babies...

I stoped taking it (Under dr orders) to see if my body would "Kick in" and it did! Two fold! A pair of identical babies!

Halfway though my pregnancy, I found a new dr. (Another long story) We had the twins, then I came back for my yearly. Bad exam. Cervical cancer was trying to take hold.

So, due to my age Dr suggested that I either hurry up and have my last baby or go on with a hysterectomy.

BOOM! Sashi!

Still no hysterectomy, as the "Cervical Shaving" proceedure (Sounds FUN!) seems to have worked to get rif of the cells. New check up in May. No big worries.

But man, o man! I am sooo lucky to have my babies! Th twins were 29 week preemies. And right now, you would never know there was ever anything wrong with them. You want to talk drama, you should see their journal (In the days before BLOGS that's what we called them! hahaha) with all the photos, that kept me busy at night after I came home from the hospital each day. Whew!

Click the link, then pan down to "ONLINE JOURNAL"
http://www.jennifererix.com/journal/journal01.html
Enjoy!

Back on topic, if I am clear this year of any problems, I still would rather get a hysterectomy done (now done in a day surgery setting) and just be done with it all. But good news! I get to keep my lazy ovaries!

OK. I deleted some messages, and then I'm told that I STILL have 40 more than what I saw. VERY confusing!!! So I finally figured out that, unbeknownst to me, there's a "Sent Mail" file. Everything PM I've sent since the beginning of time (or at least since the last time this happened and I don't remember, lol!) has been kept and has counted toward my total. I got rid of ALL of those, so now I'm down to like 10 or 12. So I should be up and running again!

I was talking about the picture page. I visited your MonsterMommy site; as much as I appreciated the way you are so "mean", I don't think I'd fit there at all. No offense; it just isn't me!

Oh sweets, that's more than ok. I look at it like this... I like COke and you may like Dr pepper, byt neither of us is "Wrong" and neither one is "Better".

The site came about when noticing that all the parenting sites were so . . . Hapy to try to please everyone and therefore kinda bland. We were looking for something more bold.

So no worries. We are not tryingto please everyone, and so that's ok.

Thanks for your input though! Every bit helps!

I know I will get flack for this, but well I would not be me, if I did not make a bold smart butt statment...

When the twins were smaller, and if i was havnig a bad day, I would say, "Moms who have them one at a time are whimps!"

Then, as I aged, I met the women who have 8 10- 16 children... I think I am a whimp, for sure! hahaha!

(There's always someone who has it better or worse than you and always someone weaker or stronger.)
