[FONT=Comic Sans MS][COLOR=DarkSlateBlue]Hi! I'm new to this website and am exicited about seeing what you have to offer! It's always hard starting a new group because those already there have usually formed their own clique. Hopefully, that won't be the case here!

We are in our first year of homeschooling, but I have a Masters in Elementary Education. I have a son 6, daughter 4, and son almost 2. I also help homeschool the girl downstairs, whose 6. Our church has started a homeschool group that does fieldtrips and parties together. But, we are moving this summer because my husband will be starting seminary! I'm interested in knowing if anyone has or did participate in homeschool co-ops and what you think of them. We are not currently part of one, but there are several at our church who are. When we move, I thought it might make it easier to meet other homeschoolers as we will not know anyone in the area. Feel free to speak your mind!

Can't wait to hear from you!

First of all I would like to welcome you to the homeschool spot. Join right in. Everyone is very friendly here and will help the best they can.
Yes I do homeschool co op with my two dd's who I have homeschool for 5 years now and they are 13 and 11. We do writing and speech and drama classes with them and I love it alot. My two dd's love it too. They get to be with other children and enjoy it alot. Now that's my opinon and my girls, don't throw any thing at us. I know some people don't like co op. I do for some classes not all.

Once again welcome and hope you all are enjoying the homeschooling. My name is Kris

Hi, I'm from TN, too. Welcome! We are in our 2nd year of homeschooling. I have one son,9 (10 this month), and three girls 7, 4,and 2. Although my church does not have its own support group, it does host a co-op that we are involved in. My kids love it. I go back and forth with it. Sometimes, I feel that it takes away from what we could/should be doing. Our co-op is a full day, so I do not make them do school work on that day. Honestly, I would prefer a half-day with only enrichment activites (like KrisTX), but there is not one in my area. If my kids didn't like it so much, we wouldn't do it.

We are very involved in with a local support group. We have field trips and play days with them. We started homeschooling when we moved here almost 2 years ago. Getting involved with the support group did help my kids make new friends. It also helped me make new friends :).

Good luck with seminary!

I was involved in a co-op until this year. Because of all kinds of reasons, we decided it was time to fold. I really miss it. I was planning on pulling my oldest out, but my youngest would be coming in. We did a Recitation Night, where all the kids were expected to do something. It was a really good experience for the kids. Plus, I'm also a former teacher, and there's some things you can do with a group that you just can't do with one or two!

You might check at the seminary your husband will be attending. There may be many HS'ing wives there. Also, your new church may have something. Or ask HSLDA about groups in your area.

Welcome! This is my 4th yr hsing and my 3rd yr with a homeschool co-op. My girlfriend started it 3 yrs ago. We now have 60 families. I really enjoy it. My kids take classes that I feel weak teaching or classes I just couldnt - like spanish! LOL And they take some extras - like a wildlife class or karate.
I have 8 children and their ages range from 6 mos to 14 yrs.

Welcome to the board. I always wished that there was a co-op closer than 40 miles from us. We did have a support group and activities, but I could have used some help in highschool. We did ok though.
