I am having a pre-kindergarten group of five come to my house once a week during the summer. Our first theme is going to be farms since there is one across the street that we could take a "field trip" to afterwards. I am looking for some cute short songs that I could teach them with some motions. Any ideas? It seems like I found some before but now can't re-locate them. All of these children are five and 4 of them will be in kindergarten this fall. I don't officially homeschool as I am a public school teacher but I always enjoyed the ideas on the abc site. I finally found this one. I have taught my son in themes since he was 3 and he loves it. I taught him to read before preschool so I guess I feel like a closet homeschooler even though he will go to ps. I think financially if I could , I would homeschool so that I could spend more time with my kids. ok, I am babbling. Thanks.

While I was a teacher's aide for preschool, we just did some old stand-bys like The Farmer in the Dell /Baa, Baa Black Sheep/ Oats, Peas, Beans, and Barley (or whatever the name of that song is :P ). I'm not sure about standard motions for any of these, but in our Sunday School we teach the kids sign language whenever possible as the motions for the music. They love it! And so does everyone else--it's precious :D and more importantly they are learning a second language 8) .

If I think of anything else I'll let you know. Have fun!

I ran a search on LessonPlanz.com for farm... Take a look at these results. There are several with songs, plus other ideas you might be able to use:

Take Me Out to the Barnyard
(tune: Take Me Out to the Ballgame)
by Judy Hall

Take me out to the barnyard.
Take me out there right now.
Show me the cows, pigs and horses, too.
I hear an oink and a neigh and a moo.
There are chickens laying their eggs.
If they don't lay it's a shame.
Oh, it's one, two, three eggs today,
And I'm glad I came.

Farm Sounds
(tune: Wheels on the Bus)
By John Saltsman

The cows in the barn go moo, moo, moo,
Moo, moo, moo -- moo, moo, moo.
The cows in the barn go moo, moo, moo,
All around the farm.

Other verses:

... pigs in the pen go oink, oink, oink

... hens in the coop go cluck, cluck, cluck

... rooster on the fence goes cock-a-doodle-do

... ducks in the pond go quack, quack, quack

... lambs on the hill go baa, baa, baa

... bunnies in the hutch go (silently wiggle nose with finger)

Farm Chores added 11-9-98 Original Author Unknown
Sing the following song while vigorously acting out jobs one might need to do
while working on a farm:

This is the way we ______
This is the way we ______
So early in the morning.

Some possible chores to perform might include mowing the hay, feeding the
chicks, sow the seeds, pull the weeds, hoe the field, etc.

Here Is The Barn added 4-2-99 Original Author Unknown
Here is the barn (Form a roof shape with your hands)
Where I like to go (Walk in place)
It's as tall as a tree (Point up overhead)
And cozy, you know (Hug body with arms)

Here is the barn, (Make a roof shape with your hands)
I'll go there with you (Walk in place)
To pet a sweet lamb (Pretend to pet a lamb)
And cuddle it, too! (Pretend to hug a lamb)

This Little Cow added 4-2-99 Original Author Unknown
This little cow eats grass.
(hold up one hand, fingers erect, bend down one finger)
This little cow eats hay.
(bend down another finger)
This little cow drinks water.
(bend down another finger)
And this little cow does nothing.
(Bend down another finger)
But lie and sleep all day.

Five And Five Eggs added 3-24-03 Original Author Unknown

Five and five eggs
Hold up hands
That makes ten
Sitting on top is mother hen
Fold one hand over the other
Crackle crackle crackle
Clap hands three times
What do I see
Fingers around eyes
Ten fluffy chickens
As yellow as can be
Hold up ten fingers.
