View Full Version : Someone stole my identity...

...well, my cc number at least (they can have my identity if they want it as far as I'm concerned).

Anyway...it was just my small grocery/household account so there wasn't much in it...but we have no $$ for groceries until this gets fixed. And they can't start to fix it until the transactions actually post, and they've been pending for 4 days. I'm just SICK over this. I shouldn't be. I should trust in the Lord.

Could I ask for prayer in resolving this? Im not concerned with starving. We have plenty of food in the house. I'm just concerned that it's out there, and it won't get fixed. I hate this kinda stuff.

We're also REALLY strapped for cash this week b/c we had a lot of stuff to pay at the gym for our daughter AND our property/school taxes were due this past weekend so we have absolutely NOTHING in the bank right now.

Thanks.

Krista, I will pray for your peace and for this to be resolved.

Over the 16 years dh and I have been married, we have had a couple charges on our cards that we did not charge The company took care of it.
The credit card company phoned us this summer when I purchased two items for school and dh bought wood for a playset all within 48 hours of each other, wondering if our card had been stolen.

(((Hugs))) Hang in there.

Cast your care upon Him...He cares for you!
Be careful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know unto God, and the peace of God will keep your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Just like a guard marches around a structure to ensure safety, God's peace will surround your heart when you pray, really pray and don't forget to add being thankful to the Lord!

I will also pray for peace, for provision and for protection that nothing else will be stollen.
Our God is able!
I agree with what Dawn wrote too! Cast all your cares upon the Lord... and trust that He will take care of you!
Do you have food in the house?

Prayers for you. To be safe check into your credit report--free for the asking with your bank to make sure there is nothing else going on. DH coworker had the shock of his life this summer when another coworker took him aside and asked about his finances out of concern. John was puzzled because everything was fine and then Rich came right out and said that he saw in the paper John's house was being foreclosed on?!!! John's identity had been stolen and the person had managed to pull a $100,000 loan against his house and of course not paid a penny back on the loan. He has had to hire a lawyer to try to save his house from foreclosure. He had no idea this had happened since all of the papers went to an address in Texas. It all came from someone being able to get a little information about him from a bank account. Not trying to scare you anymore but please did a little further to be sure. The Lord does wonderful things for us and he will be there for you! It will be taken care of!

Krista, I am so sorry that this has happened to your family. We have had the same thing happen twice to us. Thankfully both times all monies involved were credited back to us, I pray that will hold true for you also.

I am praying.

From what I've seen, the credit card companies are quite good about this. Just be sure to call them right away to explain the situation. They should be able to get you a new card (with a different number) overnight.

On a business trip a couple of years ago, the phone in my hotel room rang at about 2am. The person on the end of the phone claimed to be from the front desk. They were having trouble processing my credit card, and could I go over the numbers again with them. I was sleepy and didn't think. Only when the person asked for the code on the back of the card did I get suspicious. I hung up on the call and immediately called the front desk. Of course, they hadn't made the call. Right away, I called the credit card company to explain. They canceled the card that instant and offered to ship a card overnight to the hotel. There was no need, so they sent it to my home address. I never heard any more about it.

Incidentally, your example reveals why we should never use debit cards. In that case, the money would have been taken from your bank account and the problem much worse.

I had my bank card number stolen and used over seas, I caught it that day when I looked at my account, so my bank froze that card and took care of it...It took a few days but all was ok.... hang in there I know the stress it causes.

This is STILL not resolved! The transactions are still in a pending status, so until they actually hit the account there's absolutely nothing we can do. This is becoming really frustrating. For each day they don't post it's another day that we'll be without this money. We're still doing okay with food, so far. And I'm sure we can make it for another couple weeks if necessary. It's just the frustration factor.

Every day I log in and see them still in the pending status, it's like being stolen from all over again.

The building frustration is eeking out. And I know it's wrong. I'm trying hard to fight it and not be worried. I guess I"m failing this test in a big way.

What did the credit card company say about it? The status of the transactions shouldn't prevent them from dealing with the matter, and you should have a new card (with a different number) by now. In the circumstances, I'm sure they'll increase the credit limit if the bad transactions are affecting that. I've always found them quite understanding.

Thanks Steve...it was a debit card w/ a Visa logo...so it's not a cc truly. I think what's happening is that the transactions are in the process of being rejected and that's what's taking so long. I THINK. But there's no way to be sure right now.

I've never had a debit card, so I'm not sure how different it is. I would think, though, that the bank would offer you a temporary overdraft until these fraudulent claims have cleared. Again, I've always found my bank to be helpful.

And sorry for the negative comments earlier about debit cards. I wouldn't have made them (and worried you more) if I'd have known.

Thanks everyone for praying.

It is STILL in process. But the transactions fell out of pending this morning. And the money in my account APPEARS to be restored. I need to call the bank, there is still follow up stuff I need to do (there's few small odd transactions, a db a cr and they sort of wash so I don't know if I need to file anything for that).

But RIGHT NOW, it looks like the money is back. The girl at the bank said sometimes they'll try again...but hopefully since the card has since been deactivated, it won't even hit it will be instantly rejected as fraud.

I knew it would come. I should have been more patient.

UPDATE: I went to the bank and took out all the money! LOL :D Actually the girl at the bank recommended this (since it's a 2ndary account). She said if fraudulent charges would hit again, they'd be covering all the bouncing fees...so this was the best time to watch it....so I took it all!!! Feel like a bootlegger's wife! LOL :D

I got a few small things that we needed foodwise, but we really did well. Hoping to hold off a serious trip until Monday. We'll see!!!!
