For those of you who aren't aware, Joann Fabrics is one of the places that includes home educators as teachers in regards to their educator discount cards.
To order your card, visit http://www.joann.com/joann/about_joann/about_frame.jsp?url=about-joann-stores.joann.com/education/teachers.php
If you read the information as you're filling out the form, there is a link to the PEAH that, once followed, will prompt you to fill out another form to get a member number. This is free and there are no strings attached. Once you have that number, you go back to the Joann's page and enter it as your ID number. (I suggest opening the link in a new tab/window so you can just copy/paste the number).
About two weeks later you'll recieve a discount card good until August that gets you 15% off your total purchase, even sale items (it's good for online purchases, as well).
You can also get a discount card from Barnes & Noble by taking one of your text books in to the store. I keep forgetting to do this, so I don't know how much the discount is or what the limitations are.
What are some other places you've found that recognize homeschool parents as educators?

Thanks for the explaination on how to get the Joann's one. I talked to the ladies at my stre one time and they were not very helpful. At first they said they didn't offer it to homeschoolers and I told them I knew other homeschoolers who have it they said to bring in my state registration paperwork. Umm, we don't have any registration in Idaho so that isn't an option, LOL.
I got a Borders/Waldenbooks card last week. My local store didn't ask for any proof on that one. They are having a teacher appreciation week and offering 30% off on most things this week.

Borders is having teacher appreciation week THIS WEEK 30% off almost everything (I don't know what that almost doesn't include.)......... but they give 20% off every other day (they ask if you are using iit in your class room and I always say yes ...... because our whole house is the classroom)
Office Depot has a teacher rewards program (card)
I get 20% off at my local 2nd hand bookstore (ask in your town)
at the J0-Anns you can fill out the form in the store and not have to go through PEAH (but you need some kind of proof)
our museum and other places will give discounts if you plan in advanced (30 days at the the air and pace museum here)

Our local Joann's will only give the card to those who carry the state educator ID card. Which I obviously do not. I know others have had issues with their local stores as well, so that's why I posted the online directions.

I showed my HSLDA card. Actually, I didn't show anything this year. I pulled out my expired card, and the salesgirl just gave me a new one. B&N has also changed their format this year. Cards are good for 2 years instead of one. Discount is 20%.
Staples has teacher discounts too. You can 3 times the limit on sale items there.
Thanks for the directions on how to do it. I signed up and I will go down there as soon as I get my card since there are some things we need.

If you're talking about the Joann's card, then save your money for your first trip ;) They send a one time use coupon for 20% off your total purchase along with your card. Actually, it's good until August, too, so you don't have to plan your big spending spree right away. I used mine last week, during coupon comotion, and ended up getting $165 worth of stuff for $84! Of course, I'd been saving and planning my list for weeks and the coupon comotion stuff just made it all the better.

Thanks for all the other places, ladies. Some of them I'd known about once upon a long time ago, but kept forgetting to sign up for. I'm making a list now so I can hit them all in the coming weeks.
