Hi, I'm new here. I am not currently homeschooling but am planning to. Right now, she's a little too young! I just wanted to say hi. I'm a first time mom and have never homeschooled before but have known since my pregnancy that I would want to. I don't feel I have suport from my parents (My mom is the 'public school was good enough for you' type) and my husband doesn't understand what homeschool is because there's no such thing where he comes from. I hope I will find lots of great info and suport from the members here. Have a great day

I think you'll find some valuable information (and friends) here!

I'm hsing my son (6) and daughter (4.5) both in Kindergarten. This is our first "official" year of homeschooling.

Welcome!!!

Don't worry much about your mom...she may or may not come around. My mom is/has been my greatest supporter. My in-laws, on the other hand, know for a FACT that ALL HS'ed kids are social misfits. Well, we're starting our 7th year of formal HS'ing (like you, I knew I wanted to do this from the very start!), and my kids are proving them WRONG! Many of us have younger kids, many of us are, in a sense, "pre" homeschoolers. But your child starts learning the day he's born (heck, they learn in the womb!), so there's nothing wrong with informal teaching from Day One!

Welcome and you will enjoy it here. Don't worry about the family. My family has always been against me homeschooling the girls. But, I have got to the point oh well it's my life and my children not theres and if they don't like they don't need to come and see us or call us. It was hard at first but we have come along way and prove to them all it's been the best thing since a slice of bread and butter in our family. So, good luck and worry about what you and your family want to do not everyone else.
The ladies here are very supportive and will help alot.

Thanks for the replies! Well my dd is 15 months old now. I know she still has time before the 'pre school age' but I already have a little workbook for her when she's old enough, it has shapes and colors in it. My husband is afriad she won't have friends to play with, but agrees that we will homeschool her but I know he would like her to go to a good private school but that's too much $$$$$ for us.

Tell him not to worry too much about friends! Besides the neighborhood kids (some of which I'm glad my children don't see too much of  ), I have two kids in soccer (the oldest one both plays and helps coach/ref for the younger kids), one in dance, AWANAS, Sunday School, and 4-H. Until this year, we were part of a group that met weekly, we hike once a month with a HS'ing family, and swim once a month with another. So my kids aren't lacking for friends.

My DH is a public high school teacher. He got talking one day with a guy who also taught public high school whose wife wanted to HS. He was concerned about socialization. DH told him to spend just five minutes the next day in the school lunchroom, listening to the "socialization" going on around him. Was that what he REALLY wanted for his kids?

My husband use to have bad views of homeschooling until I started staying home with my son...he's 3 and a half. He use to date this girl in high school who he claims to be psychotic and loony so he use to have this image ingrained in his brain of what homeschoolers were like from this one girl. Well, since educating him on the issues that are faced in public schools and all, and getting him to meet other homeschool parents and children through our church, his views have changed dramatically. I'm still not sure if we will formally homeschool him or not, but it's always something we are thinking about and wondering if God will lead us in that direction.

Welcome!!! If you need any preschool ideas, let me know! I run a daycare and preschool in my home as well.
