Which do you prefer?
I have always had female cats and prefer them for no other reason.
I currently have female and we are getting another. Wondering if I should get a male this time?

I prefer male cats. Once they are fixed, they are so sweet and lovable! I've found females tend to be moodier and more hormonal- even if they are fixed! Just my preference based on always have cats! :D

I love all cats but I prefer neutered males. IMO, they just seem to be a little more laid back.
If you get a male be sure to get him fixed. I had a male cat that attacked my friends 4 yr old daughter several years ago. He was a pet, handled all the time and we'd never had any problem with him until then. All we could figure is she got between him and the female that was in heat.
I really prefer females, but that's because I expect them to work for their keep :) The females seem to be better mousers to me.

I've had many cats over the years & can honestly say that I don't think the sex of the cat matters. In my experience, it's all about the personality of the cat. I've had females that were very picky & moody. I've had females that were scared of everything. I've had females that were very loving & affectionate. I've also had males that were all of those things. I even had a male cat that liked McDonald's french fries (no other kind of fries, just McDonald's), was very moody, and thought he was a dog (he would sit at the top of the stairs & howl at passing sirens, & I swear I heard him bark!). Each cat has their own personality & I personally don't think the sex of the cat matters much in that.
That's just my opinion, form my experience.

I usually prefer female animals but we get all ours fixed. I don't like to have all those unwanted kittens running around and my dogs are foo foo babies (maltese) and I would be scared to breed one of them.

I tend to perfer male cats as well. They like to be king. I just love the attitudes! They need to be neutered and done young. Occassionally, if the home is too crowded even a neutered male will spray. Gross is an understatement!
I have loved my female cats of the past, but all of mine have been more aloaf then the males. And yes, I agree, the girls do usually earn their keep much better then the boys.

On pure personality it doesn't matter to me. I've had absolutely wonderful male cats and a gem of a female cat. What I do tend to weigh is that males are cheaper to fix but females don't spray. Other then that it's a draw.

Jeannie's kittens are males, and they scrap too much for my taste. Is it a guy thing, even though they are fixed?
And truly.. I'm still a dog person.

My males play with each other- I wouldn't call it scrapping. They just wrestle and chase each other around or find something on the floor to play with. Their favorite is milk rings! :D We currently have two males and one female. I get them fixed before they become of age. This current female is the most affectionate female I've ever had. I've personally owned 3 or 4 of them and with family cats have been around a good dozen or so. This is the only female that is this affectionate- the others have been more aloof. Just my personal experience with cats. A lot does depend on personality also!

I don't have a preference in the male or female side of things, but I do much prefer older cats to kittens! I just don't have the time or patience to train kittens..so we always get older animals...besides the older ones have more personality IMO.

I was told if you have a female cat already that you should get a male. If they like one another they'll cuddle and clean each other. But if they don't, they'll just treat each other like two females do. The downside is sometimes male cats spray.
I have two females and they have a love/hate relationship. They'll play together, they'll beat each other up, they'll sleep really close to one another, but of course not touch. Both females are cuddlers with one being a scaredy-cat and the other being outgoing and playful.
I've had the best luck getting the new cat as a kitten, for some reason older cats tend to be more accepting of a kitten than another adult.
Can't wait to hear who you bring home!

I got a male kitten because I heard they were more loveable. Wrong! This cat is like Jeckyl and Hyde! He is either really loveable, or really mean. We had him neutered and thought that would calm him down. After he kept stalking my 7 year old, we let him go outside to get some of his energy out. He is now a little better but still rather unpredictable.
I agree with the one who says it really doesn't matter about the sex as much as their basic personality.

I have always had girl cats. Right now we have cats that adopted us :) and the young males are more lovable than the young girls.

Our new little kitten weighed only 14oz when we got her, she now weighs 17. Though today I noticed a bit of blood in her stool. We have an appointment for her in a couple weeks though I am wondering if I should take her in this week. She is eatting kitten food and goats milk. Suggestions?

We Don't Have A Preference Of Male Or Female. We Have 1 Female Cat (bobbie) That Was Born With Only A Nub Of A Tail. She Is Very Prissy And Only Wants Attention When She Wants It. She Prefers To Have Her Nubby Rubbed/scratched Instead Of Being Stroked Like Other Normal Cats. We Also Have 2 Male Cats Pepe Le Poopoo & Lucky. Lucky Has Never Scratched Anybody, But If Teased, Stepped On, Or Challenged He Will Bite You Very Hard. He Acts Like A Very Protective Watchdog. He Is Trained To Be On A Leash & Harness, So When My Girls Go Outside He Goes With Us. One Day When We Were Outside, Our Mailman Came Up Suddenly Without Warning To Give Us Our Mail. He Stopped Suddenly, Because Lucky Bristled From Head To Tail, Arched His Back, Cocked His Head Sideways & Growled At Him. He Sure Was Surprised To See A Cat Act That Way. Our Other Cat Pepe Is Scared Of Everything. I Constantly Have To Work With Him & Teach Him Not To Be Afraid Of His World.

We have both, and both of our cats are great...even though the female one acts slightly retarded sometimes. LOL

I am fine with either but I wanted to offer some advise...If you get a male cat get him fixed EARLY. :)
I "adopted" my husbands cat when we got married and he was fixed BUT they did it too late so he had already learned the spraying habit and STILL continued to spray afterwards. That part was bad, but he was a sweet cat, my dh had him feisty though because he taught him how to play fight.

Either one can be a really fun and great pet. Just do the surgery thing as soon as it is appropriate.
With females, do not wait too long, they can develope really annoying behaviour patterns during heat that might not go away after the surgery.

It's probably the goats milk causing the bloody stools. If you feel like your kitten still needs milk go to Petco (or some place similar) and buy KMR for her. (Kitten milk replacer.)
Good luck I hope her tummy upset clears up quickly.
