It will work for me either June 2nd or 3rd (the 7th won't work). If either of these dates suit Crystal, we can make definite plans. I don't know if my husband will be able to get off work, as he's taking a day off this week. Ashley doesn't finish up at ps until June 8th. I'd like to just take her out for the day so she can come along and meet all the other kids; we'll have to see if I can get dh to agree! (They never really do anything that last week anyway!)
The picnic idea sounds fine. I can gladly make something to share also (don't know what yet, but I'll think of something).

Sigh..... I got to thinking that Ohio isn't THAT far away.... But then, I looked and it is 372 miles from here to there. If DH was out of school yet, maybe I'd be able to talk him into it. Oh, well! Hope y'all have a wondeful time!!! Take pictures see if they could be posted for us to see!

Ladies, I'm married to the most wonderful man in the world! I told him that you were going to meet, and he says I should go. Yeah, right! But he was serious! He says I can leave the little one here, then take the girls up the day before and spend the night at a hotel! He says it will be a "Girl's Night", and he and Phillip will go out to dinner and do something just the two of them. Ain't he a sweetie? So can we come too, PLEASE???
The June 2 would work better for me; my girls their yearly check-up on the third. I will change it if I have to, but that will mean putting it back a whole month or longer.

This is awesome!! I was so excited when I saw this post. The 7th works better for me BUT I can make June 2nd work so that we can all meet. One of my children is going away from June 1st to the 5th so that is not a major deal. I would like him to be there, but I will take pictures for him. It doesnt matter to me what time of day. I only live about 15 - 20 minutes from Hershey so you ladies that have to drive further can set up a time.
That is great that Jackie is coming too!!! Anyone else out there that would like to meet with all of us you are welcome!!!!
So June 2nd it is. Now we need a time and should probably pick a place in Hershey. I think the easiest would be the main doors to chocolate world. If anyone else has an idea let me know.

Heidi, my youngest, DS4, will be staying home with Daddy. I'll be bringing Rachael (almost 10) and Faythe (8). I told Mom and she wishes she could come, too! (And I know she'd be welcome, but she's recovering from surgery so it's not an option for her.)

June 2nd then that seems best for all!!
Lets say 10 am that should give us an hour for the tour? then we can eat (my favorite part) and exchange stuff and hang out!
We can meet at the main door of the tour and I dont mind holding a sign with my name so you can find me!lol. However I am not sure how to actually get to the factory! lol!@!@!:D
I can bring some potatoe salad to share and we can each take care of sandwiches for our own family. OHHHH I am very excited.!!!!!!!!!!
I never in a hundred years would have imagined that I would get to meet some of you wonderful people! I wish everyone could come that would be AWESOME!! OK back to reality now!
I live only about 45min to 1 hour from Hershey! So 10 am is not to early for us!
What do you all think???

10:00 is fine with me!
Jimmie Lu- if you can get to Hershey, you can find the Chocolate Factory- they have everything well marked. How would you be going? I will be coming down 22/322, so I'll be crossing the Clarks Ferry Bridge; if you need me to, I can meet you somewhere and you can follow me.
I, too, cannot believe that we're actually meeting. It will be so nice to put faces with the names. And, I think it will be so nice for the kids to meet and get to know each other.
Oh, Jimmie Lu, that reminds me- I was looking at the size 8 outfit that I had laid out and the shorts were stained. Let me know if you don't find another size 8 anywhere; I will just go somewhere and buy one (I want them to have nice stuff!) Right now, I just have the crayons, and a size 3T outfit. Is there anything else you still need?

Jimmie Lu~
I got your PM and have your numbers written down. My cell phone isn't working right now. If I get a new one, or have it working by next week, I'll e-mail you with my number (in case you get lost!)
You should be fine though, if you've been to Hershey before.
How many gallon bags do you need? What kind of shampoo (are you looking for children's shampoo)? Let me know. I can pick up some of each.

It would be really fun to go along! Maybe you can plan that for us sometime. Since I just finished The Purpose Driven Life, I'm feeling a bit guilty that I'm not going with you on your short-term mission trip. But, I guess any help "behind the scenes" is good too.
More than anything, I'd just like for you to bring a baby home for me!

I will try to pick up some more shampoo. Hubby is taking me out today - its my birthday! :D I will look for baby shampoo.
10:00 am sounds great to meet. I just found out that the mother of the little girl we are adopting would like to see her for a day and its the 2nd. Ug! I agreed to an open adoption and need to keep my word. So the 2nd still works for us, I just wont have my 4yr with me now.
Anything else you need Jimmie Lu for your trip????
Crystal

Crystal-
Please make sure you bring pictures of your 4 yr. old along. I was hoping for she and Gracie to meet! Oh well, I understand. I don't know if I could handle an "open adoption"- I'm sure it takes some patience.
Can't wait to meet you!

Crystal, would it be appropriate for the birth-mom to join us? It would sure give her an idea of what us hs'ers were like. Just a thought. My 4yo won't be coming; it's just going to be a "girls trip". He and Daddy will spend the evening together (and Daddy will watch all the horrid movies that I won't let him bring in the house while I'm home, LOL!)

Jackie - The birth mother is actually a friend of the family and our hsing is one of the reasons she liked us and came to us with her child. She is picking up Jessie on June 1st and she lives in Delaware so it probably wouldnt work for her to join us. We include her in some things, but need to draw a healthy line. She has been known to over step where our family begins and her relationship ends. It does require a lot of patience and prayer, but I know Jessie is to be with us and our family. Heidi I will bring pictures!
I am looking forward to meeting you all!!!
Crystal:)

June 2nd 10 am at Hershey factory doors Ill make a sign that says ABC
Then we will know one another! lol
I am bringing Potatoe salad for all of us! Who else can bring a dish to share?
I think this is great and we should pick a place for the fall and do it again!!!
See ya there!:D

It would be too complicated for me to bring a dish, because of the distance, but I'd be willing to bring two bags of chips!

Crystal~ We had a lady from the town we live in ask us to adopt her little girl (the child is now 7, so it's been awhile!) Anyway, it was at the time when we really wanted another child, so we thought about it. But, my husband said "I would love to adopt the child, but I don't want to adopt the mother!" and that's exactly what it would have been. So, I can totally understand where you're coming from with this birth mother!
Jimmie Lu~ Great idea about the sign. I'm glad you have the nerve to hold it! (I'd be too embarrassed). But, at least this way, we can all find you!
I am so looking forward to meeting ALL of you! This is going to be so much fun. I'll make a dish to share- don't know what yet, but something (either that or I could bring a bag of chips or something).

All you ladies who are meeting in Hershey should wear pins with some sort of ABC theme! That way Jimmie Lu could easily recognize you all, too. It could be as simple as writing the letters on paper, cut them out in a circle & press the circle between clear contact paper. You still have a few days to create something. Wooden letters could be hot glued together and painted or left natural.
Just think- creating the emblem of the ABC(abcteach)Sisterhood!!!

Becky, I'll put my girls on it right away! I'm sure THEY would LOVE to come up with something!

I will bring something to share with all too. Maybe some extra drinks too. Depending on the weather we might want to eat first or shortly after we get there. Food kept in a hot car.. We have a cooler, but not sure of its location right now. Whatever you ladies want is fine with us.
I will try to have my kids make and abc sign too. We have a very busy couple days coming up so not sure how great our sign will be. ;)

When we were last up to the factory it seemed like we passed fifty grocery stores like Weis, Giant, Aldi. Couldn't one of you peek into Weis or Giant for hot or cold fried chicken, then split the cost? As I watch this unfold, I see you all trying to do things the easiest way possible. Something like chicken, Jimmie Lu's potato salad, and a dessert of some sort seems easy and not so expensive. Aldi doesn't have ready to go stuff like that, at least not the one I go to. EXCELLENT prices, though. Cheap, cheap, cheap!
I am pretty sure 24 pieces of chicken at Giant is less than 15.00
We get an 8 piece for the weekend and that's only 4.99. We get their ring cakes, too, and I think they are 3.99 or 4.99. Weis has very similar prices, but I think Giant has better fried chicken! ;) Plus, I think they both have websites so you can double check prices and store locations.

Thanks for the idea Becky, but I think my gang will stick with some home made sandwiches. Half my crew is still loving the old p&j sandwiches.
I think Giant may be the closest store if you other ladies are interested.

Yeah, my little one is stuck on pb&j now, especially that mixed kind. And you're right, that would go over better with the kids. I was in saving time and work mode. Sorry.

I'm with Crystal. Bringing stuff to share is fine, but I think the "main dish" would be easier with our own sandwiches. We'll have a cooler anyway; we usually take one when traveling any distance. Last year we bought one that you actually plug into the cigarette lighter! Trouble is, you have to turn it off when you stop the car for any length of time, or it will run down your battery.

OH JIMMY LU!!! I still need to know how big your daughter's quilt block needs to be finished! I can't find that info anywhere, and Rachael's ready to cut it! Thanks!
Jimmie Lu
05-27-2004, 08:19 AM
Quilt should be 6x6!!!!
I was hoping to get the quilt done by summers end but....
We are setting dates and getting ready I am soooo excited:D
God has been blessing us left and right! I will be meeting the nursing home res. around the 7th of June for packing and then I can reclaim my class room!! lol
I will bring my cooler so if anyone needs to keep sandwiches cold they can toss em in!! We are ready to go to Hershey!

Someone mentioned, I thought, doing this again in the fall. Maybe then, depending on my husband's work schedule. It does sound like fun!

Yeah Becky if you do not live that far away PLEASE join us!!!
This started out to be a pick up of things for Mexico now I am more interested in who is comming than what they are bringing!!
Please think about joining us!!
Maybe in the fall we can meet at the PA state museum and capitol in Harrisburg those also are free things to do!!!

Ladies, I hate to bring this up, but......do we have a back-up plan for the picnic if it's storming? I know we can still tour the factory, and my family WILL be there regardless of the weather because the hotel room has already been paid for. We're excited, and Jimmy Lu, Rachael almost has your daughter's quilt patch finished to bring! It's scarlet and grey...Ohio State colors.

Sounds good to me! This summer, we spent a month camping in New England. They kept predicting thunderstorms, etc. but we actually only had TWO DAYS of rain, and the kids dealt with them wonderfuly. We were able to find a local library each time, which to MY family is better than going to the movies, LOL! We considered ourselves EXTREMELY blessed as far as the weather. Rachael finished your daughter's patch today. We need to make a picture of it, as we're considering it as the "service project" portion of her sewing 4-H project and will want to include it for the County Fair.
