Konos question.

I have always wanted to try Konos. I was wondering from those who have used it...can I just buy one unit study and do one or maybe 2 a year? I am not sure I want to do it all year...especially next year...I am trying to be sure with a new baby and toddler I can keep up. lol. However, I would like to try out one or two units. Is that ok or would that be weird?

When I first started out I bought the character trait books ( Obedience, Attentiveness and Orderliness )
It's all spelled out for you in the books. You can also get Konos in a box. I didn't do that but Ihave a friend who did and it worked out well for her. The box supplies everything- books, craft items, and the character trait book.

AFter I did a couple of these units, the Konos Volumes seemed easier to understand. There's also a Yahoo group that is a weath of info- it has a database full of ideas and suggestions.

Personally, I think it is very doable to only do one or two units in a year. It really is pretty flexible. I had one unit planned for the spring but it just didn't seem to be where we needed to go, so I changed it. No big deal, I'll pick the other one up next year.

FYI, there is a yahoo group called"konoscurricula" where you can buy used konos material.

THanks Lori! I have been wanting to give Konos a try for quite sometime. I think next year if I try it out I will do Konos in a box. I need to be more structured next year. However, my kids and I get a kick out of unit studies and breaking the mold every now and then.

I will look into the character trait study...I have been wanting to do a character trait study for years anyway.

They are all good but my favs were : Obedience ( kings and queens) Orderliness (solar system -all time fav and good for littles) We've done Attentiveness (senses and classical music) but I don't think I would suggest it for littles. Just my $.02 worth!

I checked out the website, when I purchase in May, I just may start a unit study to finish out this year. I saw the one on Obedience and I think my kids would love it.

I was going to ask a question on Kono's this morning as well. I just read the review in Cathy Duffy's book.

I am confused as to how it works (maybe unit studys in general) How can you do just one unit, or pick and choose and still get all the info you need to cover?

Is it confusing for the kids since it isn't in an order.

Can you get just the trait books and go from there with library books and supplies from home, or do they have a ton of "other things" that you will need to buy to make it work (kind of like Sunlight)

This is just history, and bible right?

As you can tell I am really really lost when it comes to Kono's I am intrested but lost.

Any help to demystifiy this would be apperciated.

There is a scope/sequence on their website. I know for us, last year we were heavy in history but were heavy in science this year. It all balances out.

Not at all. We use the timeline and they can see how everything relates. It was neat to see how America was being settled at the same time Kepler, Galileo, and Newton were doing there work.

You can do what you want. The instructions are for supplies at home. If I see a neat kit, I'll get it. I onlyuse library books. I can't always get the ones on the reading list, so I just substitute with something close.

Not at all. There's also science, critical thinking, reasoning skills, practical living skills, and language arts. Theonly extra you would need is Phonics and math.

I really recommend that you start with the character books before using the volumes. It will make the process easier to understand.
